Super Bowl Pool?
« Thread started on: Jan 26th, 2010, 01:13am » |

Preparing to set up the Money Leagues website, the idea of creating a traditional Super Bowl Pool popped into my head.
It may be too late to run it for this season, but I can't help but put a feeler out there before giving up.
I'll set up one grid with blocks $1 each and no limit to the amount you can purchase. Any unpurchased blocks would go to the "house". Ideally I would have liked to of done some research on frequencies and changed the odds up, but there's no time for that.
For those unfamiliar, I speak of the Super Bowl Pool where each team is designated on the vertical or horizontal axis with the numbers 0-9 listed as well on a grid such as this:
http://www.docsports.com/pdf/super-bowl-squares.pdf
If there are enough responses, I'll set one up on the website.
You're hoping the last digit of each team's final score corresponds to the (or a) square you own. For an example, if you have the Saints on 8 and the Colts on 7, you're hoping the Saints win 28-17 or lose 38-27 or any other combination with those digits at the end of each number.
For this pool, I'll also be giving a percentage of the funds received to those who have their numbers come up after the first, second and third quarters as well.
Correct after the first quarter: 5% of total money received Correct at halftime: 10% of total money received Correct after the third quarter: 5% of total money received Correct at the two minute warning, but not at the end of the game: $1 Correct at the game's conclusion: remaining amount of total money received.
If at least half of the boxes are sold (meaning money received) by next Friday (February 5th) I'll go forward with the idea.
Due to their being less than two weeks left, I strongly encourage payments sent to bsoester@bellsouth.net through paypal with the type being set to "Payment owed" (anything else may envoke fees). If you can't do paypal, email me to try to figure out another method out.
If it doesn't work out this year (or even if it does), I hope to have it ready with the money leagues for next year.
Confirmed Entries (99): Chris Wanned (10) Susan Gantz (10) Anders Nilsson (10) Brad Wilson (10) Kevin Whorton (5) Anthony Lombardo (2) Aaron Freeman (5) Jason Oroszi (2) Jeff Mazurek (5) Tyson Hester (10) Bill Horton (10) David Graner (10) Robert Casares (5) Tim Schneider (5) House (1)

Just tell me what you want and I'll reserve it for you should things work out.
In the future I'll have a form and grid on the website.

I would be interested. However, I have only played in pools where the boxes you receive are totally randomized. What are the chances of it being changed to that?

If the preference is for that I don't have a problem changing it, but at this point I'm not sure there's a reliable way for me to publicly randomize things other than random.org if everyone's fine with that.

let me know when this is official and i will get $ to you via paypal
i dont think it necessary to randomize the boxes. part of the fun of it is picking boxes yourself.

In the past Jay has used a random number generator and has showed us the results so I trust that it will be random.
Put me down for 5-10 depending on how many spaces you need filled.

Count me in for at least 5, and up to 10 if needed to finish filling out the boxes.

Put me down for 5.
I like the idea of picking your own squares and it not being randomize, but whatever.
